At A Bike Thing, riding isn’t something we talk about — it’s something we lead from the front.
Our Founders Club Rides are exclusive, founder-led experiences where a small group of riders join Steve Abel in some of the most incredible riding locations in the world.
Colorado Expedition 2026Unfortunately, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to cancel our August 2026 A Bike Thing Founders Club Ride to Ouray, Colorado.
The trip was being run in partnership with Austin Moto Adventures and was built around exploring the incredible mountain passes, trails and backcountry of the San Juan Mountains.
Due to the current forest fire situation in Colorado, access to key areas has been affected and Park Rangers are not able to allow us motorcycle access to areas that formed an important part of the planned ride.
We could have attempted to redesign the trip around the restrictions, but it wouldn’t have been the Colorado experience everyone signed up for.
Our Founders Club Rides are about taking a small group of riders somewhere genuinely special and experiencing the best riding that destination has to offer.
For Colorado, that meant the mountain passes, backcountry trails and spectacular riding around Ouray.
If we can’t confidently deliver that experience, we’d rather cancel the trip than offer a compromised version of it.
It’s hugely disappointing.
A lot of planning has gone into this trip, both from ourselves and the team at Austin Moto Adventures, and we know those who were due to join us were really looking forward to it.
However, rider safety, respecting the local restrictions and delivering the experience we promised have to come first.
Our decision to cancel doesn’t change our relationship with Austin Moto Adventures.
They’re one of the most respected adventure motorcycle training and ride experience providers in the United States and have put a huge amount of work into helping us plan this trip.
They also host an A Bike Thing Approved Installation Centre at Whiskey & Wrenches, supporting ABT customers across the United States.
This isn’t the end of Colorado for A Bike Thing.
The San Juan Mountains around Ouray remain firmly on our bucket list, and when circumstances allow us to put together the experience we originally intended, we’d love to come back and do it properly.
Our A Bike Thing Founders Club Rides will continue too, with more destinations and adventures to come.
Sometimes adventure also means knowing when not to ride.
Colorado — we’ll be back.
